The Dees are almost always a good bet as outsiders and this game against Port on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval shapes as no exception.
Best Bet
Melbourne have an exceptional record as outsiders and look a great bet getting almost two goals start against Port.
Since 2021 Simon Goodwin’s men have started as outsiders on twelve occasions. They have won nine of those games.
While the Dees did lose by four points to Port in this meeting last year, they generally have an excellent record at the Adelaide Oval, having won ten of their sixteen games here and having covered in eleven.
Despite some speculation about off field matters affecting their performance, it has clearly had no effect on the Dees thus far. They comfortably dispatched Hawthorn and their Dogs while their Round 1 loss to the Swans looks better now.
Melbourne will miss Steven May but with Tom McDonald now playing back and the ability to shift Harry Petty, they have the personnel to cover Port’s tall options.
There is no knock on the Power who have been easy victors in the last fortnight, but against a proven top side the line here is far too big.
Same Game Multi
Tom Sparrow saw an uptick in midfield minutes last week attending 64% of centre bounces. With the Salem midfield experiment seemingly over due to backline injuries, he should maintain this level.
Judd McVee took all the kick ins for the Dees last week with Steven May out of the side.
Value Bets
The Dees are big value to cause an upset here. They have won three of their last four against the Power.
