The Hawks look like a strong play to get some revenge on Port Adelaide after their fiery Semi Final clash last year.
Sam Mitchell’s side has been ruthless against weaker teams, covering the line in ten straight games against sides ranked below them, eight straight against teams on a losing streak, and 12 of their last 13 when starting favourites.
They haven’t just been narrow victories either, seven of their last ten wins over lower-ranked opponents have been by 40+ points.
Port have been one of the biggest disappointments in the opening month of 2025. Their trademark aggressive ball movement under Ken Hinkley has vanished, and even with Zak Butters returning last week, they were smashed around the ball by St Kilda, losing the clearance battle comprehensively.
Winning at stoppage is Port’s only real path to staying competitive here, especially with Will Day sidelined for the Hawks. But elsewhere, Hawthorn’s small forward brigade could wreak havoc, and their organised defence should be able to contain a Power forward line averaging just 66 points per game this season.
Fresh off the bye and fired up, the Hawks should be far too strong, and a big win looks on the cards for the visitors.
Same Game Multi
The Wizard has kicked 2+ in seven of his last nine when the Hawks are favourites.
Josh Ward will continue to get big midfield opportunity with Day’s absence. He’s had 20+ in three straight.
Jason Horne-Francis has had 20+ in three of four games this year and 17 in the other.
Value Bet
If the Hawks get a whiff of a blowout, don’t expect them to take the foot off the throat following the Hinkley-Ginnivan battle last year. This could get ugly.
