AFL Tips – North Melbourne v Carlton – Round 3 2024

North Melbourne Kangaroo vs Carlton Blues - AFL Tips

There will be goals when the winless Kangaroos face the 2-0 Blues in the Good Friday clash at Marvel Stadium.

Over 173.5

The over looks an outstanding play on Good Friday.

As we’ve mentioned in previous North Melbourne previews this year, Alastair Clarkson has a ludicrously inexperienced backline, particularly in the key position posts. The young Roos have given up 102 and 121 points in their two games to date.

This week, poor Kallan Dawson and Toby Pink, with less than 10 games of AFL experience between them, will face arguably the competition’s best tall forward duo in Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay.

There will be bags.

On the other side, North are playing ultra-aggressive footy which has seen them score a respectable 79.5 points per game this season while the Blues have given up 85 points against the Lions and 81 against the struggling Tigers. Despite winning both games, Carlton’s defence is yet to click in 2024.

The numbers are excellent for a monster score. The last five between these teams at Marvel have gone over, averaging 193 points per game (excluding 2020). Seven of North’s last nine home games have gone over. Three of Carlton’s last four at Marvel have gone over.

Expect goals and plenty of them.

Same Game Multi

Carlton 1-39, Over 173.5 Points, C.Curnow, H.McKay. N.Larkey 2+ Goals, L.Davies-Uniacke 25+ Disposals

North have been very competitive at Marvel, covering in nine of their last eleven, so they should keep the margin respectable in their highest profile match of the year.

Back Harry and Charlie to dine out on the Roos defenders while Nick Larkey should bounce back from a quiet game for 2+, which has hit in 16 of his last 19 games.

LDU has had 25+ in nine straight at Marvel.

Value Bets

North Melbourne
Head To Head - First Half

The Kangas were excellent in the first half last week, taking a healthy lead into the main break against Freo and also led this corresponding fixture at the midway point last year. They have also won the first half in eight of their last nine matches against Carlton at Marvel Stadium.

Harry McKay
5+ Goals

Expect one of Carlton’s talls to kick a bag in this game. At the price, we’ll take McKay with the extra height against North’s smaller key defenders. He also appears to have improved his goal-kicking routine although we should expect a duffed kick or two.
