Best Bet
The Hawks are the right side to be backing here despite facing the competition’s only unbeaten team.
Hawthorn have a superb record against the Dogs, winning and covering in four straight including the last two by 37 and 22 points. Their key defensive stocks in Tom Barrass and Josh Battle are amongst of the best in the competition and should be able to neutralise the Dogs’ major scoring threat in Sam Darcy and Aaron Naughton.
The Dogs arrive with significant injury concerns. Tim English is out, which leaves them badly exposed against Hawthorn’s twin ruck attack of Lloyd Meek and Ned Reeves. That combination will neutralise what would otherwise be a midfield advantage for the visitors. They also lose Arthur Jones to a hamstring, while Ed Richards returns from his own injury scare.
Cam Mackenzie and Karl Amon both return for the Hawks and the money has been for Hawthorn all week. Back them to cover a small line and continue their excellent record against this opponent.
Same Game Multi
Jack Gunston cannot be stopped when Hawthorn are favourites, kicking three or more goals in nine straight in that situation. Mabior Chol has kicked four goals across his last two games and should cause problems against a Dogs backline that could be stretched.
James Sicily has gone 20 or more disposals in seven straight when the Hawks start favourite.
Value Bet
Nick Watson has started the season in supreme form with 10 goals in four games including two performances of three or more. He kicked four the last time these teams met and looks a strong value play here.
