AFL Tips – GWS Giants v St Kilda – Round 5 2024

GWS-Giants_St-Kilda-Saints

The Giants look the real deal this season and should comfortably account for the underwhelming Saints in Canberra on Saturday afternoon.

Best Bet

GWS Giants -19.5
Line

One of the strangest streaks in football was finally broken late last year when the Giants finally won in Canberra for the first time since 2019.

The nation’s capital is meant to be their second home but it was anything but for the Giants over a long period of time.

Adam Kingsley’s side really came into its own over the second half of last year and they have started this season brilliantly, with four impressive wins.

They weren’t even near their best against the Suns last week but still managed to win and cover the line. GWS have now covered three of four with their only failure coming against the Roos, who kicked 13.4 that day to the Giants 17.19.

St Kilda have been in four close matches to start off the season, the biggest margin being a 15 point win over Collingwood. All their other games have been decided by single figure margins, but their last two against Essendon and Richmond have not been impressive at all.

The Giants have too much class and are in too good form not to win this one easily.

Same Game Multi

Giants -19.5, Green 30+, Steele 25+, Marshall 20+ Disposals, Hogan 2+ Goals

Backing Tom Green to bounce back here after a relatively quiet game last week. He had 38 disposals and three goals in his only appearance here last year.

Saints ruckman Rowan Marshall has been winning plenty of footy thus far in 2024, and he had 31 and 24 when these sides met last year, while Jack Steele was back to his best last week and had 38 in last year’s Elimination Final.

Jesse Hogan is the in-form key forward in the league and has kicked more goals against the Saints than any other team.

Value Bets

Jesse Hogan
Most Goals

Toby Greene has a surprisingly poor record against the Saints while Max King is going to be under Sam Taylor’s blanket all day. This feels like a Jesse Hogan game if there ever was one.
