The Cats host the Dockers at Kardinia Park to kick off their 2025 AFL campaign with scorching conditions forecast.
Best Bet
Geelong remains a tough team to beat down the highway and should be too strong for an injury-hit Fremantle.
The Cats play ten games at Kardinia Park this year, where they’ve been dominant for over a decade. They’ve won 83 of 99 games at the venue since 2010, including 19 of their last 24.
Fremantle has the best record of any visiting team at the ground, winning three of their last seven, but without Sean Darcy, Shai Bolton, Hayden Young, and potentially Alex Pearce and Michael Walters, it’s hard to see them seriously challenging a near full-strength Geelong side.
That said, Justin Longmuir’s team remains a strong defensive unit, ranked fourth for points conceded last year, and is more than capable of shutting the game down to avoid a blowout. The forecasted 35-degree heat could also turn this into a scrappy contest as the game drags on.
Geelong should get the win, but expect the Dockers to keep it competitive.
Same Game Multi
Jack Bowes enjoyed more centre bounce appearances than any other Geelong mid in their game against Essendon and racked up 31 touches.
Corey Wagner was also used more as a distributor by the Dockers and finished with 24 touches against the Dees. He had 15+ in eight of his last ten in 2024.
Luke Ryan has had 20+ in four straight against Geelong.
Value Bet
As mentioned, the Dockers actually have a good record at the Cattery, and have won three of their last four against the Cats overall, so a tight win for the home side could well be on the cards.
