Brisbane take the long trip to Optus Stadium for their second game of the season, following an agonizing loss to Carlton in the opening round.
Best Bet
Brisbane can make amends for their opening round loss by comfortably defeating Freo.
Freo has a solid midfield unit (albeit their ball use is an issue) but they had the fourth worst attack in the league last year and it’s hard to see where much improvement comes from.
At the same time, adding Oscar McDonald to their starting 18 in defence is hardly a vote of confidence in that unit.
The Dockers pre-season form was worrying. Even though they won the clearance battle against Port, they were smashed in every other aspect of the game. The Lions having played last week and getting a nine day break into this game is a significant advantage.
Brisbane showed in the first half last week against Carlton how potent they can be, and while ultimately they let that game slip it is a pattern unlikely to continue.
The Lions have won seven of the last nine between these sides including their Round 21 clash last year.
Chips in the Lions.
Same Game Multi
With Lachie Neale out, Hugh McCluggage should see more midfield time for the Lions.
For Freo, this will be Hayden Young’s first season in a midfield role from the beginning. He had 29 when these sides met last year.
Value Bet
Two of the Lions last four wins over the Dockers have come by more than 40. With a game under their belt, it is easy to see them dominating this one from start to finish.
