Sydney have been up and down this season but their strong record against the Bombers and at Marvel should give them the edge here.
The Swans have won six of their last seven against Essendon, including two of the last three at Marvel. It’s a ground they enjoy, having won seven of their last eight games there.
Dean Cox’s side are still missing key players like Tom Papley, Errol Gulden, Logan McDonald, Lewis Melican, Callum Mills and Joel Amartey, but they showed against GWS last week they can still be a serious threat when switched on.
The Bombers have won four of their last five, but those last two wins came by just three and two points against North Melbourne and West Coast, two of the league’s three bottom sides.
Even with injuries, the Swans are well-organised and experienced, and they have a strong tagging option in James Jordan who could limit Zach Merrett’s influence.
If Merrett is kept quiet, expect Sydney’s midfield to take control and deliver a narrow win.
Same Game Multi
Steer clear of Merrett.
Chad Warner loves playing Essendon. He’s averaging 26.8 touches in his last five against them.
Matt Roberts has been pigging out lately, averaging 25.4 disposals over his last five.
As below, add in Brodie Grundy for some extra value.
Value Bet
Injuries to Sam Draper and Nick Bryan have left 36-year-old Todd Goldstein as Essendon’s number one ruckman. Goldy’s been a brilliant player, but its not a position he should be in at his age.
Tristan Xerri ran wild last week against him, picking up 25 touches – his equal second best career tally.
Brodie Grundy can really rack them up when given the opportunity, and he could cash in here.
