AFL Tips – Essendon v Richmond – Round 23 2022

With the Bombers in utter disarray both on and off the field, the Tigers look set to maintain their dominant head to head record on Saturday night at the MCG.

Best Bet

Richmond -23.5
Line

No need to think too hard about this one. The Essendon Football Club is in utter turmoil and look set for a final humiliating defeat to close out their season.

Last week’s loss against Port saw a remarkable lack of effort from the Bombers. That was followed by the president resigning, and the coach seemingly being sacked before being reinstated.

It is the wrong time to come up against a Tigers team with blood in the nostrils. Richmond did a number on the Hawks last week and their forward line with Tom Lynch back fit and firing looks capable of posting massive scores.

Their contested possession game has gone to another level in recent weeks, with Dion Prestia and Trent Cotchin both playing as well as they have in years.

The Tigers do so much right in other parts of the ground that if they can go close to breaking even in the middle, they will be hard for anyone to beat.

This has been one of the most lopsided rivalries in all of football in recent years. Essendon haven’t beaten Richmond since 2014. They have a bit better record against the number, but have only covered in two of the last seven.

This could get very messy.

Same Game Multi

Richmond 40+, T. Lynch 5+ Goals

Tom Lynch is still a rough hope for the Coleman Medal so if the game turns into a blowout, his teammates might well try and push him over the line. 5+ is highly possible against a Bombers side that struggles to cover the good key forwards.

Value Bet

Richmond 40+
Margin

If Essendon produce anything similar to what they did last week, some of the bigger margins are well and truly in play here. 40+ at $2.87 looks highly realistic while 61+ at $6.00 looks great value as well.
