Adelaide are likely to continue their hot start to 2025 against the Bombers at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Adelaide look like one of the best bets of the weekend against Essendon.
Matty Nicks’ team appears poised to surge up the ladder in 2025 if their ten-goal win over St Kilda is anything to go by. Their tall forward trio of Thilthorpe, Fogarty, and Walker looks particularly lethal, while their midfield has been further strengthened by the inclusions of Neal-Bullen and Peatling, allowing the dangerous Rankine and Dawson to spend more time forward.
The Bombers showed some fight in their 26-point loss to Hawthorn last week, but their key defenders only had to contend with Mabior Chol as a true tall forward. Facing Adelaide’s three-headed monster in attack will be an entirely different challenge. Brad Scott’s side is also quietly undergoing a rebuild, having fielded the youngest starting 22 of any club in Round 1.
These two teams have played tight contests in recent years, with three of their last four meetings decided by less than a goal. However, the Crows look like genuine improvers in 2025 and should comfortably take care of Essendon.

Essendon’s tall back duo of Ben McKay and Zach Reid are particularly bad 1v1 defenders. Fogarty and Thilthorpe kicked four and three respectively last week and could fill up again here.
