Best Bet
Collingwood are a very strong bet here.
They are simply brilliant at the MCG, winning their last eight at the home of footy and covering the line in seven of those games.
The Pies have been quite rightly been backed into premiership favouritism following a six game winning run since opening round. Remarkably, they’ve already played six of last year’s eight finalists, so it’s hardly been a cushy run to start 2025.
The big question mark on Geelong has been their midfield, especially with the veteran Patrick Dangerfield spending most of his time forward. Two of their three losses have come against top four clearance differential teams in Brisbane and Carlton. Worryingly for the Cats, Collingwood are ranked fourth in this stat this year.
If Geelong can’t be competitive around the pill, it’s hard to see how they’ll kick a winning score against the AFL’s best defensive team who are giving up just 66 points per game.
The Pies will also recall Darcy Moore and likely Lachie Schultz, although Dan McStay will miss.
Take the Pies to win and cover the line in this one.
Same Game Multi
We love Josh Daicos at the MCG. He’s had 25+ in seven of his last eight at the venue.
Steele Sidebottom’s midfield renaissance should continue. He’s had 25+ in three straight.
Ollie Dempsey has kicked two goals in three straight.
Value Bet
While we do like the Pies in this one it’s hard not to have a throw at Jezza kicking a bag considering his great record against this opponent. He’s kicked 3+ in four of his last five against Collingwood including bags of six and seven, the latter coming in a defeat in 2023.
