The Dockers are the right side to be backing here.
Fremantle look a genuine flag contender through four rounds, even across the park, carrying multiple avenues to goal and sitting at 3-1 with their only loss coming at Geelong after dominating early.
The midfield battle looms as the decisive factor. Fremantle sit second for clearance differential this season while Collingwood are second last. Darcy Cameron’s lack of spring has been badly exposed by the new ruck rules and Luke Jackson will be all over him in this one.
Collingwood’s other major concern is key defence. Without Darcy Moore, Treacy, Amiss and Voss could cause serious damage. Meanwhile the Pies forward line has been misfiring without Mihocek and Hill, and Jamie Elliott has started the season slowly.
Nick Daicos and Pendlebury are both expected to return which helps, but Fremantle have sent Corey Wagner to Daicos in the past and with the Pies’ limited key defensive depth, this could get away from them quickly.
The Dockers the play in this match-up.
Same Game Multi
Caleb Serong has had 30 or more disposals in three of four games this year while Josh Daicos has had 25 or more in five straight.
Jye Amiss has kicked six goals in his last two games and will get a very favourable match-up with the Pies missing Moore.
Value Bet
Has the cliff come for Collingwood? Last week’s performance against Brisbane was genuinely alarming and while the returns of Daicos and Pendlebury will help, Fremantle have a blueprint to neutralise Daicos through Wagner if required. With their limited key defensive stocks and a Dockers forward line in full flight, this has the potential to get out of hand quickly.
