The Blues look lost in 2025, and the Bulldogs should take full advantage on Friday night.
With Harry McKay sidelined, an underdone Charlie Curnow will again have to carry a Carlton forward line that has managed just 60 and 69 points in the opening two rounds. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs defence will be boosted by the return of James O’Connell and likely full-back Liam Jones.
If Michael Voss’s side can’t post a big score, their only chance is to turn this into a scrap. But that’s easier said than done on the quick Marvel Stadium deck, where nine of the Bulldogs’ last 11 games have cleared the total points line.
Carlton’s lack of a reliable second key defender hasn’t been fully exposed against Richmond and Hawthorn, but against Sam Darcy and Aaron Naughton, it could be a major issue.
Despite missing key players like Bontempelli, Treloar, Ugle-Hagan, and Weightman, the Dogs have looked solid through two rounds and appear far more settled than Carlton.
The Blues have only beaten West Coast and North Melbourne in their last nine games, so it’s hard to see them turning things around here
Same Game Multi
Sam Darcy booted four last week and looks set for a breakout season.
Bailey Dale has racked up 25+ in seven of his last eight at Marvel while Ed Richards continues to relish his midfield role. He’s had 30 and 27 to start the season.
Value Bet
Darcy looked unstoppable against Collingwood last week and it’s hard to see how Weitering and whoever Carlton use as a second key defender will be able to contain him.
