Richmond welcome back some key personnel and they need all the help they can get if they are to challenge Carlton on Thursday night at the MCG.
Best Bet
Richmond were insipid last week against the Gold Coast and it doesn’t bode well for their 2024 season.
While the Tigers were able to mount something of a second half comeback, unlike their rivals here they never seriously challenged their opposition.
Carlton will be full of confidence following their comeback win and the confidence that Harry McKay would have built from his game winning goal is invaluable.
The Tigers defence looks highly vulnerable and it’s hard to see them keeping McKay and Charlie Curnow in check.
The Tigers do welcome back Toby Nankervis, Dustin Martin and Tom Lynch for this game but they need far more out of players like Jacob Hopper, Dion Prestia and Tim Taranto – they were smashed out of the middle against the Suns.
Carlton have sadly lost Sam Docherty for the season but look to have enough depth to cover the veteran’s loss.
Richmond do have an excellent record against Carlton but they are now a side in transition. The Blues should be able to cover this line.
Same Game Multi
Jack Carroll came in as substitute for Sam Docherty and had 10 disposals and four clearances in just 35% game time. He should remain part of the midfield mix.
Blues small forward David Cuningham looked dangerous last week with one goal and two behinds.
Value Bet
Charlie Curnow started the season in hot form and comes up against a Tigers side that allowed five goals to Ben King last week. The Tigers defence will struggle against quality key forwards all season.
