AFL Tips – Adelaide v Port Adelaide – Round 8 2024

Crows vs Power | AFL Tips

The iconic Showdown finally comes to prime time when the Crows meet the Power on Thursday Night Football at the Adelaide Oval.

Best Bet

Port Adelaide -3.5
Line

The gulf in form between these two sides is immense and the line looks far too low for the much better performed Power.

Admittedly, Port are down some key personnel with Connor Rozee doubtful, and Aliir Aliir and Sam Powell-Pepper set to miss. But while Rozee is a big loss, Port have an abundance of midfield depth and can increase the on ball minutes for Ollie Wines and Jason Horne-Francis.

Port have only lost two games for the season and there is a strong case to be made that they should have beaten Melbourne. Apart from their last three quarters against Collingwood, the Power have been outstanding. Last week’s margin of only ten was flattering to the Saints as well.

It’s hard to get excited about the Crows. While they recorded the obligatory win over North last week, their overall record of 2-5 is a fair reflection of their level of play. They did beat Port twice when they met last year, but this year’s Crows side is a significantly weaker outfit.

Laying less than a goal, the Power are a terrific bet.

Same Game Multi

Port -3.5, Horne-Francis 25+, Houston, Farrell 20+ Disposals

JHF should see more midfield time with Rozee likely to miss.

Ball handling defenders Houston and Farrell should get plenty of opportunities with the Crows being notorious for turning the ball over in their offensive 50.

Value Bet

Jason Horne-Francis
Showdown Medal

Jason Horne-Francis is having a great season and with Connor Rozee set to miss should take an even more prominent role in the midfield. The former number one pick can claim his first Showdown Medal.
