The Crows shape as big improvers in 2024 and can get their first win of the season at home against the Cats on Friday night.
Best Bet
Adelaide had a difficult task last week. Not only did they go up against a side that already had a game under their belt, they played in wet conditions which greatly advantaged their opponents, the Suns.
Despite that, the Crows made a big charge in the fourth quarter to just miss and go under by a goal.
There were plenty of positives for the Crows to take out of the loss. They won the inside 50 and contested possession count. They broken even with the much vaunted Suns midfield in clearances.
The Crows should welcome back Taylor Walker for this one and he was arguably the outstanding key forward in the league last season.
This is a much tougher challenge for Geelong than playing the Saints at home. Geelong are very good at stopping opposition from moving the ball from end to end at their very narrow home ground and that was why they were able to win the game.
Historically the Cats form at the Adelaide Oval against the Crows is poor. They have only won three from seven and only covered in two of them. Adelaide was a force to be reckoned with last year at the Adelaide Oval, winning nine of thirteen games and covering in ten.
Chips in the Crows.
Same Game Multi
For the Cats, Patrick Dangerfield attended 87% of centre bounces last week. That’s a huge number and if that continues, he should be capable of getting bigger disposal numbers than his 25 last week.
Jeremy Cameron looks to have been given license to roam right up the ground which should only help boost his disposal numbers this year.
For the Crows, Matt Crouch experienced a career renaissance to finish 2023 and started off this year on the right note with 33 against the Suns.
Young key defender Josh Worrell had 22 last week and while he won’t do that every week, he is being assigned some kick in duties which can help buttress his numbers.
Value Bet
Rankine had two of his team’s eight last week against the Suns. Taylor Walker should be better with the run under his belt and the highly skilled Rankine gets his chance to make an impression here.
